I’ll repeat what I said on the FP:
1st, Tesla themselves used to have no hands-on requirement, so this is just gaining the feature back that they bought the car with.
2nd, do you honestly think that a quick tap on the wheel every time the car beeps means they’re paying attention? Or that the beep makes them pay attention? No, they’re going to continue to not pay attention, and this just removes the chime that forces them to tap the wheel (without looking) every few minutes. It changes nothing.

This reminds me of that apocryphal story of the person driving an RV who’s getting tired, so they put on cruise control and walks to the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee. When police find them in the wreckage of their RV on the outside of the corner a mile down the road they say the first thing they are going to do when they get out of the hospital is sue the RV manufacture for false advertising of cruise control.

There are no laws that prevent the use of this device. What about the 10 million cars with “standard” cruise control with no time limit? A Telsa with autopilot buddy is 4x safer than a car with cruise control and no lane keep or autobraking. Go hide your head in the sand.
